BY Eleanor McGillie
November 13, 2022
THE CEO of Worldwide Financial Planning has been listed as one of the 50 Leading Lights in the UK for his kindness and leadership, an accolade aptly announced today which is World Kindness Day 2022 (November 13).
Peter McGahan, who leads a team of independent financial advisers and administrators from the firm’s offices in Cornwall, Southampton and Northern Ireland, was listed in the campaign which seeks to shine a spotlight on leaders who are impacting others through kindness.
The campaign is a unique chance to build a new status quo, sharing advice and expertise from leaders and recognising the contribution of kind leaders to business, the economy and society.
Worldwide Financial Planning, which is driven by its values, promotes kindness in everything is does with team members marking themselves and their own performance against the firm’s values on a monthly basis.
Speaking about his listing, Peter said: “At Worldwide Financial Planning we start with our ‘why’. Why do we do what we do? Every one of us do what we do because we want to take care of each other, our clients, their families, our own families as well as making a positive impact on our wider community. It’s about making sure we do our very best to make sure people’s nine emotional needs are being met.
“We all have nine emotional needs – security, having a safe environment to develop; attention – caring for each other which is a form of nutrition; a sense of autonomy and feeling of control in our lives; feeling part of a wider community; emotional intimacy – knowing you are accepted; privacy – a chance to reflect; a sense of status within social groupings – I am someone; a sense of competence and achievement, and meaning and purpose. If just one of these emotional needs is not being met well enough in our lives it can create paralysis.
“Kindness is a key strength but it is often misunderstood as a weakness in business. It is not and we ensure it is at the core of how we treat each other and how we treat everyone.
“I am so honoured and humbled to have been nominated for this listing and I am overwhelmed to be in the list of other leading lights in the UK. It’s a list I am very proud to be a part of.”
Pinky Lilani, CBD DL, Founder of Kindness and Leadership 50 Leading Lights, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce 50 Leading Lights, across both the UK and Asia Pacific regions. These phenomenal leaders are driving transformative change within their businesses, communities and on a global scale, making a remarkable impact by harnessing the power of kindness in their leadership.
“We have been blown away by the nominations we have received and it is clear that even in the toughest times, kindness is the currency that empowers, enabling individuals to reach their full potential and, ultimately, reflecting in business success, too.”
Simon Litherland, CEO of sponsor Britvic, said: “Kindness is not a nice-to-have or soft skill in business. As these 50 Leading Lights so clearly reflect, kindness is central to leadership that drives a business or organisation forward. We all know that we thrive, personally and professionally, when we feel secure and true to ourselves.
“The leaders we celebrate in our 50 Leading Lights campaign lead with kindness and, in turn, they see notable increases in performance, productivity and, ultimately, well-being.”
